Like other seasonal words, the kanji for spring, 春 Haru, is a combination of Japanese characters. The first is the character “Sun” or “Day” 日 and the second is a combination of the kanji for plants 艸 and the phonetic 屯 meaning ‘To Sprout’. In other words, Under the Sun of Spring, The Plants Begin to Sprout and Grow.
